Care Worker Wins £1m On Scratch Card

One lucky care worker managed to scoop the £1 million jackpot on a single National Lottery Millionaire 777s scratch card this week.

Jackie Murphy from Shrewsbury in Shropshire was down to her last £20 before payday when she decided to take a gamble. She had just completed a long, hard 12 hour shift when she headed to the local newsagents with just a £10 note in her purse. Knowing she had just £11.52 in her bank account, Murphy, 61, asked the cashier for a £5 Millionaire 777s scratch card on a desperate whim.

She said of the impulse decision: “At first I thought, well if I don’t win anything at least I will get my fiver back as that is a given on the Millionaire 777s scratch card”

So with that safety net in mind, Murphy didn’t feel too guilty about her impulse buy. And indeed it turned out to be one of the best spot decisions Murphy has ever made, resulting in her becoming a millionaire! Like most big scratch card winners, she couldn’t believe it at first, saying:

“I scratched it and just sat there in disbelief before dashing back into the store to get it checked. I gave it to the shop assistant who scanned it for me before asking her if it was really worth £1 million. Her smile got bigger before she said yes, it was worth a million!”

The win couldn’t have come at a better time either, as Murphy is due to wed her partner of 10 years, Jim Potter, later this month. Although the pair are adamant nothing will change, with most of the final plans already in place for the big day. The couple are still set to wed in a registry office with Murphy wearing a dress from Monsoon while her bridesmaids head down the aisle in dresses from Matalan. But there is one change in store for guests – the couple are now going to celebrate their win and their wedding in style with a free bar for all guests at the reception, seeing as the couple can now afford this.

Murphy and her partner are also delighted that they will now be able to look into going on a Honeymoon, something they hadn’t considered before due to the cost. All the best to the happy couple!
