Shop That Won’t Pay Scratch Card Winnings

Imagine your excitement when scratching off your scratch card panels and revealing a nice little cash sum? There’s a little rush of adrenaline as you go up to collect your winnings, even if it is only for a pound or 2, but what happens if the store won’t pay out! Not something that you would ever expect to happen we are sure, but apparently it does!

One Costcutter shop in Oxford Road is pretty upset that this actually happened to her. The 22 year old customer claimed that she was a regular customer at this particular Costcutter store and purchased National Lottery scratch cards. She commented that when she got a winning card that she bought from the store that she was refused at least 9 or 10 times. The common excuse for this hs apparently been that there hasn’t been enough cash in the till to accommodate.

This was particularly annoying to her as the most she has even won has been £15. Surely there is enough cash to pay that out? It would appear not. There was a spokesperson from Camelot who decided to comment on this matter stating that in the 37,000 stores that sell National Lottery scratch cards, all of which players can claim up to £100 in cash prizes, and some of them pay out prizes of up to £500. It was also added that as they get a commission on any payouts they make over £10, there’s no reason why they wouldn’t do so.

Further comment was made that if a player does feel that they are entitled to a prize, they could absolutely call their prize linen and one of their advisers will be more than happy to confirm their prize. Costcutters were also contacted to see if they had an opinion on this matter, but unfortunately nobody was able to comment.

This story has gotten quite a lot of exposure lately, so we suspect that this may have retailers think again before deciding not to pay out scratch card winners. Let’s just hope if you are a lucky winner, that you will be able to cash in those winnings!
